Smart beauty Blonde highlighting kit 💇💇

So for this post I’m going to be showing you a hair highlighting tutorial using Smart Beauty cool blonde hair highlights.

This time I used the cap method to add lots of thin tight together highlights to give a more natural effect. My hair before looked like this 👇

My dye was fading and a bit drab, roots on show and it needed a bit of life and texture adding to it. So I got my hair tools together and decided to transform myself.

This consisted of;
– A highlighting cap
– A long hair hook (explained below)
– A non-metallic mixing bowl
– 3 xΒ  Smart Beauty highlighting kits (lots of highlights)
– Gloves and dye brush (provided in kits)
– Spare pair of hands would be a big help
– An old towel to protect clothing

So firstly I started by putting on my highlighting cap. This is a little like a tieable swimming cap with lots of tiny holes in to aid inthe highlighting process.

Once you have you your cap in place you use the hair hook to pop through the holes in the cap. Each hole will represent a highlight. Once you’ve hooked a strand of hair you pull it through the hole to the outside of the cap. You can pull through as many or as little as you wish to dye till you end up with something like this…

Once pulled through as that is the time consuming part out of the way now is the time to mix your colour. As per the instructions you take your development cream and lightening powder and mix the two full packets together in yourmixing bowl to form a paste.

Once mixed you apply this to the hair exposed on the outside of the cap until completely coated.

When you have something like the above you cover over with clingfilm or tinfoil. I like to use tinfoil as it’s easier and I believe it keeps the heat better causing the reaction on your hair to start the colouration process.

So when you’ve aquire the above trend setter 🙈🙈 you leave to develop for the personal development time according to your strand test. Or if you’re already an avid hair dyer then you know as a rough guide between 40-60mins so you check until you think the blonde colour has lifted enough.

When your development time has ended you rinse your hair and shampoo. For this I had left the cap on as I knew I would perhaps need to dye again to get a brighter blonde I wanted as my hair is dark. (It was dark blonde but I wanted a lighter – if you’re happy with the colour you can remove cap).

Once shampood I towel dried my hair and added the toner provided as per
instructions.

Apply the contents of packet all over the dyed hair on towel dried hair and leave for 10 minutes. This will neutralise the blonde and take away any brassy tones that you may have. Once you have left on for the appropriate time you can rinse this off and dry your hair as normal.

As stated above although I was more than happy my highlights were blonde I thought I would repeat the colour and toning steps again with another kit to achieve a brighter blonde but this may not apply to everyone this is your personal preference.

Once I had done that I washed all of my hair together as normal and dried to reveal my new transformation!!
