Ever had a day out and just fancied doing something a bit different?
Well this is what we did last Saturday with the warmer weather making an appearance…
Went on a York riverbus courtesy of City Cruises York
There are two different departure points from which you can choose:
- Lendal Bridge Landing
- King’s Staith Landing
The departure times are every 45 minutes from 10:30am till 3:00pm at Kings Staith and from 10:40am till 3:10pm at Lendal Bridge.
You can book tickets Online or upon entering the Riverbus. We had a ‘Yorkshire Attractions‘ voucher book so it cost us £20 for two adults and two children.
The cruise takes you on a scenic tour down the River Ouse, with the captain explaining the sights along the way.
We passed Clifford’s Tower, old ruins from the castle wall, York Minster, York Museum, 3 Cannons firing for the Queens Birthday, to name a few… and much more of York’s finest buildings and architecture.
The Boat has a fully licensed bar. It has enough to accomadate small children who want a snack or cold drink to adults who want a pint or glass of wine.
The top deck is open air you can either sit up there and let the breeze blow through your hair, or the lower deck is undercover and enclosed with windows to keep you warm and dry in the colder weather.
Along the cruise we saw many people canoeing, training for competitions, as well as people hiring boats and people who own and live in their own narrowboats.
All the children enjoyed waving at the passersby and spotting the different landmarks and attractions along the way.
Overall a chilled, relaxing experience and time to watch the monumental buildings pass by.
I’d definitely recommend, whether a small family, older couple or hen / stag do looking to have a change of experience then check out the website.
